Medusae Fossae (Life on Mars) Ferrofluid Print

from $60.00

From Life on Mars, a photography series by Elyse Jealette interpreting the biosignatures identified by NASA’s Perseverance rover in 2025.

This piece is inspired by Medusae Fossae, which is a vast and enigmatic formation on Mars near the planet’s equator, believed to be composed of ancient volcanic ash deposits sculpted by wind into soft, flowing terrain. The region’s rippling layers and eroded formations resemble waves frozen in motion—an echo of the branching, molten structures that appear in this image.

Created through an experimental process using ferrofluid and magnets, the composition evokes molten terrain, cellular formations, and shifting planetary surfaces. Dark branching structures spread across luminous fields of red and gold, recalling lava plains, mineral blooms, and alien ecosystems shaped by magnetic fields and plasma dynamics.

Printed on premium, museum quality fine art paper.

  • Paper Finishing: Matte or Semi-Glossy

  • Acid-Free: pH above 7 to prevent yellowing over time.

  • Paper Weight: 250 gsm (110 lb), Thickness: 0.29 mm (11.4 mils).

  • Sustainable Paper: FSC-certified paper for sustainability.

Includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity (mailed separately).
